Smart Contract-Enabled Traceability for Military Equipment Lifecycle Management

As warships become more complex, the need to manage the lifecycle of such equipment is becoming more intricate, and the demand for a secure, transparent and tamperproof system to track assets from procurement to retirement is growing. Centralized systems can be inefficient, lack transparency, and have software manipulation issues. The study suggests a smart contract-based blockchain infrastructure that handles all the lifecycle events from the military equipment, guarantees data integrity and offers end to end traceability. Smart contracts automatically run specific procedures on procurement, examination, transport, maintenance, deployment, and disposal, keeping track of immutable records. A homemade data set is used to test the proposed system. The results showed the feasibility of tracking with a higher degree of security and efficiency than the traditional management system, and better transparency regarding the lifecycle of the product.
